Earlier this week I shared my step-by-step foolproof guide for successful outfit planning. Centered around the holiday season, this guide can be pinned and used throughout the year. Now that you have the guide, what do you say we look at a few outfit ideas?
For today’s post, I selected 10 of my favorite outfits from the current and past holiday seasons. In putting this post together, I noticed that I lean towards faux fur, sparkly accessories, fun pieces that I can move in and quite a bit of black and gold. What types of pieces do you enjoy wearing over the holidays? Often times it takes just one piece, like a sparkly headband or sequin skirt, to get you in a festive holiday mood.
And if your outfit just doesn’t some together, throw on some sparkly accessories and remember…
Here’s a look at 10 holiday outfits that I have worn to day and/or nighttime holiday events. I hope you find some inspiration to dive into your own wardrobe, and create a few festive looks of your own.
Looking for a few last minute pieces to round out your outfit? You’ll find a curated round up of fun holiday pieces to browse, in the event you need a piece or two to complete your own looks, in the shopping post, Holiday Pieces to Round Complete your Holiday Look with Shopping Links (HERE).
Outfit 1:
While perusing a local consignment store this past September – with no idea where I was going to wear it – I picked up this festive gold tulle dress by Anthropologie. Pictured here at our annual “Sparkle Breakfast”, with gold booties for a bit of daytime glam (and warmth!). Sparkly accessories bring the shine, a feather sleeved shrug adds warmth.
Outfit 2:
On repeat, this Cabi feathered shrug is the perfect topper to my sequin skirt and simple cashmere tee. Silver pumps add a sophisticated vibe, to this office-ready cocktail party look.
Outfit 3:
The tulle dress I almost passed on came in handy for this years “Very Xmas Barbie Party”. Going for an Uptown Barbie Vibe, I dug into my costume chest, uncovering this circa 2000 vintage pink faux fur shrug, a hairpiece and a few of Grammie’s vintage jewels. A sparkly headband, silver sparkly vintage kitten heels and rhinestone cat eye readers – linked in (this) post – finish off this Glam Barbie, party ready look.
Outfit 4:
Back again with the hair piece (bun) and sparkly headband, this outfit features one of my favorite gold satin skirts. From JCrew, I look forward to bringing this skirt out every Christmas. Paired here with a lace vintage Dolce Gabbana tank and faux fur bomber jacket, for another office appropriate cocktail outfit idea.
Outfit 5:
Using similar pieces from Outfit 4, this outfit is what I wore to a cookie exchange I hosted at my home. I heat up when entertaining, so no jacket was required or desired, for this look. Knowing I would be on my feet for hours, I wore a pair of low heeled bronze mules. I think the long pearls added a bit of a vintage vibe to this look.
Outfit 6:
Fast forward 4 years, same tree, different gold JCrew skirt and gold boots. Paired with a fun holiday sweater that picked up at my local consignment store while shopping for a sequin top for another party. Cozy yet festive, this was the perfect outfit for a daytime holiday coffee with friends.
Outfit 7:
Holiday Plaid. Be a top, jacket, skirt, dress, pants, shoes or accessories, something plaid will make your outfit pop! I kept the rest of my pieces black, allowing the pant space to shine. Silver mules add some sparkle, to this easy daytime holiday look.
Outfit 8:
Sequins for daytime. Don’t be afraid to wear your sparkly pieces during the day. For a breakfast with friends, I “toned down” my sequin skirt, pairing her with a cashmere oversized sweater and classic vintage bag. A vintage necklace and leopard kitten heels add an element of fun and surprise.
Outfit 9:
It’s less intimidating to style a sequin skirt for daytime if you just think of her as a regular skirt. For this daytime look, I layered this fun star cardigan over my black cashmere tee (again), adding tights and moto boots, for a more casual look.
Outfit 10
I always have at least one black midi length dress on hand for holiday office parties or events where the attire is unclear. You can never go wrong with a classic black dress like this short sleeve velvet midi by Shoshanna. Simple does not mean boring. Accessories, like my zebra clutch and silver pumps, add flair and interest to your favorite LBD.
And at the end of the day…
Have a fabulous weekend friends!
These are all such fun looks Suzanne. Love them all.
