As much as I love the convenience and selection online shopping, it has issues. Aside from the fact you can’t try your selections on for fit, styling, color and fabrication – there is really no way to get the valuable feedback you would when shopping in a store. Yes, you can read reviews, but it’s not quite the same. Even in an understaffed store you have the option to step out of the dressing room and ask the opinion of a fellow shopper in the room next door. A second opinion is always available in a brick and mortar shop.
Yet we shop online. Alone. Making mistakes, often irreversible with many an online retailer return policy. If you’re like me and you like engagement, then engage! Grab your iphone and reach out to a few honest gal pals who know your closet, style and lifestyle. Women love to help each other, especially when it comes to shopping. I know I for one love to give a second opinion to a friend in need.
Despite having closet full of clothes after swapping my closet out from summer to fall, I was having a difficult time pulling looks I loved together. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks, my jacket/sweater/topper ratio to blouse/tees/tops was way out of wack. Many of us have way more tops than toppers, but not I. I hate shopping for tops. Why? Most don’t fit me correctly. I have narrow shoulder and a short waist making tops super challenging to find. Many of us dread shopping for jeans or bras, for me it’s tops.
For a wardrobe to be workable, one needs a balance of tops | bottoms | toppers – clearly I was lacking tops. After my ah-ha moment, I got online and began searching the web. I found a few great white shirts at JCrew and Madewell, but needed a few more options. I headed over ThredUp to see if I would have any luck in the second-hand marketplace. My quest online always begins with a search by brands I know fit me, color, size, neckline and sleeve length. Lucky me, I came up with more pieces than I needed, but I couldn’t make a decision. I’ve always counted on my girlfriends for second opinions, so I created a collage on my phone using the PicStitch App and shot it out for a 911 second opinion. Within an hour I had all the feedback I needed to make a decision.

So what did they have to say?
