Ever since I caught the buzz that a ThredUp pop-up store was making it’s way to Northern California, I’ve been stalking Instagram and Facebook for updates on it’s arrival. Having opened their first store in Texas this summer, I was beyond excited to hear that Walnut Creek, CA was opening their doors last Thursday. Being we were attending a family event on Saturday in the East Bay, by daughter and I packed up early for a road trip to this much awaited destination, which did not disappoint. In a time when we hear so much gloom and doom about the demise of brick-and-mortar retail, I am thrilled to see an online retailer doing the opposite – testing the idea of brick-and-mortar space as a compliment to their online commerce. Having an extensive fashion retail background dating back before the days of online shopping, I’ve always believed that consumers love to touch and feel product and want a customer experience – we like to interact. Yes, we want convenience, but the experiences we have in stores make us first trust a brand, to then go shop online.
Not your typical thrift store, ThredUP has gained my trust as a consumer by offering a no hassle return policy, and options for customers to save on shipping costs. They have removed the risk of giving them a try. I feel they stand behind their products, and I have yet to be disappointed. They carry a huge range of moderate priced to designer brands – all at hugely discounted prices. They offer the same experience in their store; a no hassle return policy, easy to shop boutique style merchandising, friendly staff, quality product – at every price.
While I was visiting the store, I was told that this was not a pop-up location, but that they will be in the space across from Nordstrom at 1450 Mount Diablo Blvd, for at least 10 months.
Not only did my daughter and I find some fabulous pieces, we had so much fun! We said we needed more time, and would love to come back and check out some of the other new shops and have lunch at the renovated Broadway Plaza.
Thrift stores for me are just another place on my list of favorite places to look when I am out shopping. How fun to be able to add ThredUp to my list of places to go when I am at Nordstrom, Anthropologie and Co, JCrew and more?
