If you have been following along the past few weeks, you know I am into something called a Summer Capsule Wardrobe (read more in this post HERE). When I created my capsule, pieces that work together for a summer, I felt I was missing a jacket (or 2), and a few casual dresses. For me, casual dresses are not the most fun to buy, but they are what I wear on a daily basis in the summertime. Hence, my dressing room pics below, are mostly of casual dresses and lightweight jackets. There is so much more; from kimonos and great casual pants to fun and basic tees. Anthropologie is full of great product right now, here’s a look at a few of my picks:
(I did not have time to link each of these items, but I made sure you had the name of the piece – in the event you want to look at it online)
Top left to right: High Tide halter dress. I saw this on a gal in the dressing room – super cute! | Great fitting strapless dress, the back is adorable (reviewed below) | Throw on this tunic and off you go! | Super flattering by Bailey 44 – dress this up or down.
Row 2, left to right: The fabric on this free fitting dress is really pretty in real life | The tie front tank dress came home with me. Not for everyone – but for us gals with no waist – it provides some shape (reviewed below) | If you are up for trying a harem pant – these rock! | This skort is super cute on. For me, I was in between sizes so it would not work. The correct waist size was too tight in the butt.
Top left to right: The Redonda tank has mixed reviews which I didn’t really get. I like it for those days when you don’t want to tuck, and it looks great with denim. | Love the color of the Tasseled Dolman top. A gal in front of me in line, was purchasing it – super fun! | I love a knot tee, with high waist denim or skirts. Super cute with shorts as well, in 2 colors.
Row 2, left to right: I couldn’t find the chambray halter to try on, but I do think this is a great piece. With white denim, skirts and more | The Sweetfern peasant top is different. This is a must try on item as I don’t think it is for everyone. I happen to really like it – on my wish list and reviewed below | I love a lace-up top. I have 2 that I rotate – one stripe and one solid. Great update to your basic tee.
Top left to right: I love the Saba tunic by Velvet, but even with the 15%, off I still think its a little pricey. Doing the sale dance for this one! | Open Shoulder Tee comes in many colors – a great basic | Anthro has a ton of kimonos right now, this one happens to catch my eye | The terra-cotta tank also comes in a blue white combo. It is a swing style – super sweet and summery.
Row 2, left to right: I had planned to purchase the Breakaway jacket in white, then in black (looks navy) , then the sales person brought in the draped Morgan trench and it was love at first sight. That said, I think the Breakaway jacket is a great piece – reviewed below | The Kerela bomber is a great piece and if I didn’t already have THIS ONE, from Who What Wear Target, this would be on my wish list.
Let’s take a look at a few of these on!
Caleta Dress by Maeve
If I had a place to wear this, I would have bought this dress. I love that you can wear it without a bra and the back is so cute. The fabric is substantial, kinda holds you in – but not in a scuba fabric kind of way. It fit true to size or a bit big. I fit in both the XS and S.
Top left, clockwise: Tie Front Tank Dress. I am wearing a small here, I ended up with an XS because you could see my bra through the side arms. That said, I don’t know that it runs big, it’s my narrow shoulders. I would say this needs to be tried on in the store, to be sure the tie hits in the right place and it fits through the top part | Elysian Maxi Dress. Was $148.00, now $99.95 in 3 color ways. I liked the fit of this dress, but have similar pieces like this so it was a pass. That said, cute dress at a sale price. | Dolan. A little to short for my liking – but a super easy summer dress to wear! | Bailey44 gathered stripe midi dress. True to Bailey44, the fit is great on this dress. For me it was a runner up with the tie front tank dress – and I am still undecided. The black and white stripes worked better, with what I have in my closet – but this is a great dress if the colors work for you. Dress it up or down!
Top left, clockwise: Strapless denim A-line dress by Holding Horses. Was $148.00, now $89.95. I loved the frayed hem. I am wearing a 4 here, its a little tight in my chest. They didn’t have a size 6 for me to try on for reference. | New out of the latest catalog, the Solstice Silk dress is a great vacation dress! I’m not in the market for a dress like this at the moment, but I could picture this dressed up with strappy sandals or flats in the daytime. | I loved this chambray dress when it first came out, sadly this one is too tight on me (wearing a 4). It runs tight in the ribcage. If it works for you, it is a great buy on sale. I can’t find the name of it, but I believe it is by Holding Horses. | Ok, the Strapless Mosaic jumpsuit is not for everyone, but there was something to love about it. Available in 2 prints by Elevenes, its $118.00.
Now on sale, The Abroad Dress by Maeve is a great everyday casual – easy to wear dress, if the fit works for you. For my body type, I felt it accentuated the tummy and did nothing for my shoulders. But, I really wanted to like it. True to size, in 3 colors – if you have broader shoulders than I and an hourglass or pear shape – this may be for you. Was $148.00, now $79.95.
The Clementine Maxi Dress is a fun dress. BBQ or picnic anyone? I just can’t decide where I’d be wearing it to. It’s available in a more versatile blue and white stripe. Now on sale for $89.95, was $158.00. Ran true to size. The sales gals said this was a tough fit on many – my guess is if you like it, it may hit the 2nd round of markdowns soon. I love the back – it’s a party!
OK, so I had to go pick up this kids at camp and was running short on time. I am not saying you wear these next 2 tops over this maxi dress. I was multi tasking. TOP RIGHT: Sweetfern Peasant Top, also in navy blue. LOWER RIGHT: Redonda Tank – Reviews say it ran small, I did not find this to be the case. I am torn between these two tops as I like both – but they serve a similar purpose. Stay tuned!
JACKETS!
A second look at the Breakaway Jacket from Hei Hei. Ran true to size for me, little tight in the wrist, but I would roll the sleeves up anyway. Available in a faded black and creamy white. A great lightweight summer piece to throw on and go.
I did not plan to try on or buy the Draped Morgan Trench (Hei Hei), but after going back and forth between the 2 jackets, I knew I would wear the Morgan Trench over the Breakaway jacket – and buying both was not on the plan. I think it will go with tons, and it is much different than my jacket from WhoWhatWear (HERE), so its a keeper. This fun wrap dress is by Eloise (I think? ) and was buried in the back of the store by the pajamas – but how cute is it? Sadly I can’t find it online to link for you all, I’ll keep looking!
Lastly, you would most likely walk right past this stripe skirt by Bailey44, and not give it another thought.
But ladies, if you are at Anthro, try it on! It is so flattering on, and would go just about anywhere! It’s one of those great finds for me, that I know I would wear over and over again.
Isala Wrap Skirt, Bailey 44, $118.00, also in a really fun red print online. The other print may be better for me as I wear very little navy and more black.
So yes, I did add 2 pieces into my closet, so what’s up with my capsule you say? So, after close evaluation, there were 2 pieces that I had bought earlier in the season; a denim skirt, a pair of cropped jeans still with the tags on – that were not going to mix with my new vision, so back to the store they went! I had a spot for 2 casual dresses and 1-2 jackets – and now 2 bottoms. I will be updating my capsule for you all as I go along this summer.
(Jean #2 and lace up denim skirt went back to the store!)
Since I began my Summer Capsule Wardrobe, I have stuck with it everyday and have been documenting 1 outfit a day for you all. This keeps me on track, and challenged to create a new outfit each day. At the end of the month I will share all 30 outfits with you, so you can see how owning interchanging pieces, can make your life so easy!
Anyone been purging the closet?
Will you be hitting Anthro this weekend?
(sale runs thru Sunday)
What are you finding that you are missing in your closet?
Do you find it difficult, to stick with a list, in a sea of temptation?
See you back next week!
XOXO

A quick note: “Blogs I Read” has been added back onto Ask Suzanne Bell. This is a list of blogs I personally follow, not all, but regulars. This page automatically updates – whenever the author posts something new. Therefore the most current post lands at the top. My hope is that this new format makes it easy, so you don’t have to hunt around for your favorites. While you are here visiting, you can simply pop on over and see what’s new out in the world of blogging. Not all are fashion or style blogs, you may just find one you love!

You added some nice pieces to your wardrobe! Glad you made room in your capsule by taking back some pieces that didn’t work with it! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing all the capsule wardrobe outfits!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Hi Andrea! YEs, Since I am trying to keep the number under 40, If I add something – something has to go (and those were pricey pieces!) I am still torn between the Bailey 44 dress and the one I got. After trying the stripe one on at home, it may not be the perfect fit for me – I may need broader shoulders 🙁 But the jacket it a winner – taking it with me on a day trip today! Have a great weekend! XO
I really like the yellow plaid picnic dress and the peasant top over it on you…Very nice for california….you could wear it to any afternoon outing…or a rock festival or on a vacation or every picnic….I tried it on but it was too long to alter. For me….I can see it in the suitcase with some t shirts in those colors and jeans shorts and gold sandals… Done! Oh , a jacket and cardigan here in caliofornia… Simple gold hoops maybe…
Hi Cyndy! I do like that plaid picnic dress. I was in Anthro over the weekend and they suggested pairing it with a belt – to break up the plaid. It was much better and gave shape to the dress. Stay tuned! I did end up ordering the peasant top (ran large so I’d size down if interested). Thanks for the great feedback!
XO
