Beyond Beach: California Chic Dressing

We all know, that where we live, influences our style. Having lived in California most of my life, one thing I know for certain; we definitely have our own personal style out here.

Style surrounds us, in quirky beach towns like Capitola,

in our beautiful beaches,

breathtaking coastal vineyards,

and a great glass of wine wherever we go.

This is just a snapshot of the photos I took while staying with friends, at their lovely beachfront home, this past weekend. We are blessed here in California with endless beaches, lakes, quirky coastal towns, mountains, vineyards and beautiful weather, year round. Life around here is simply a bit more relaxed.

Don’t get me wrong, being a working mom, living in the heart of Silicon Valley, I have a professional work look and I love nothing more than to get all fancy for a party – but, when at the beach or lake, hanging around the house or out running errands in the heat, casual chic is my go-to. This is when relaxed denim, maxi dresses and skirts, breezy tops and cozy cardigans – for cooler evenings,  come into play.

Young Fabulous and Broke is one of my favorite brands to run around town and simply hang out in. It’s casual, chic vibe takes your casual look up a notch and is so comfortable to boot!

This past weekend, like most – I lived in a go-to YFB piece of mine, the ‘Sierra’ ruched fold over pant.

I love this pant so much, I have 3 pairs!

You don’t see YFB everywhere. I am often asked where I purchased mine – so, I’ll let you in on the scoop!

I own both styles above. The Sierra pant is a no brainer, pull on pant that you can adjust on the sides, depending on how much ‘skirt’ you prefer. The Marina pant is nice – you can adjust the hip of the wrap, kind of like you would a sarong. But, like a sarong, it is a bit more work than a simple pull on, and you have to adjust it each time you wear the pant. They are different, I like them both.

Now, unless you are 5’9 you will need to have them altered – they are really long, as are YFB dresses. I just take them to the tailor, they measure and cut (not hem) them, to keep the look of the pant intact. The wide flowy leg is what makes these pant so chic and beyond your average wide leg knit pant. I wash mine, hang dry, and iron them. I find YFB pieces to run true to size.

I mostly wear mine with flip flops, but if you are a wedge girl, these look so fab with wedges, and your legs will look a mile long!

You can find YFB at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks as well as boutiques. The YFB website has a boutique finder so you can find a shop in your local area. YFB is pricey, but I have found great pieces at Neiman Marcus Last Call (the pants are on sale there now, at amazing prices, along with some other great pieces ), Nordstrom Rack, HauteLook, Off 5th and Marshalls.
