Over the years I have tried out my share of “extended wear” nail polish. Look-of-gel wonders claiming to stay on up to two weeks. I’ve always been able to get an “extended wear” when using gel-like polishes on my toes, but have yet to have any success extending the wear on my fingers to more than four days.
Drawn in by the gorgeous fall colors of the Essie Gel Couture line, once the sales gal at the counter told me “this one really works”, I paid for #115 (Cut the Line) figuring even if it didn’t stay on as well as it claimed, I’d have a gorgeous new fall color to add to my polish collection.
Before trying the product, I posted the question to my followers on my @AskSuzanne Facebook Page, asking for feedback on this line. The response was an overwhelming yes – this polish is a winner! The key I heard was skip the basecoat. Okay, I’ve never heard that one. But my readers know what they’re talking about, so I gave it a try. After instructing my manicurist to skip the basecoat (she concurred) and just go with 2 coats of polish topped off with the Essie Gel Couture topcoat, the challenge was on. Knowing I’d get at least two weeks wear on my toes, the real question was how long would this new product remain un-chipped on my fingers.
The answer?
10 days!
Ten days without any extra caution taken, plus lots of hand washing and sanitizing due to sick kids in the house. I did add a second top coat on Day 7 just because I had heard this step can help extend the wear of the manicure, and I had an event to attend. The longest I’ve ever had any polish stay on my fingers without chipping has been 4 to 5 days max. So 10 days pass, and on Day 11 my manicure began to chip. You’d think a polish with a 10 day durability would be difficult to remove. No siree! I removed my polish with a single swish, no rubbing or soaking needed.
So does this miracle polish live up to what it claims to do?
Absolutely, it’s my new fave!
Day 1
Day 2
Day 7
Day 10

I really like the Essie Gel polish. Im super tough On my nails, lots of tyling, filing, hand washing etc. but this stuff really hangs in there!
I too am REALLY tough on my nails Which is why I was surprised that this lasted as long as it did! I wonder how it would do with someone who actually was careful with their nails 🙂
