If you’ve been following along, you know back in June, I created a Casual Summer Capsule Wardrobe, to make getting ready for the everyday, easier. Mid-June, I shared 15 casual, everyday outfits, created by remixing 35 pieces from my Casual Capsule (HERE). New to the idea of a capsule wardrobe, or have no idea what I am talking about? Click on over the full post, HERE, and get caught up.
Here’s a look at what I wore, the 2nd half of June:
And a recap from the first 15 days of the Capsule Wardrobe experiment:
Whew!
There you go, that’s 30 outfits total!
This experiment has been super fun, and enlightening. Getting dressed, for everyday activities, has never been so easy.
As the month went on, I made a few tweaks to my capsule.
Returned:
(2) bottoms back to the store, that I found I was not gravitating toward (and my kids said I could do better).
Added:
(1) Marc Jacobs utility skirt (ThredUp)
(1) Enza Costa Denim Maxi Skirt | HERE
Update on the skirts:
The long maxi was a big miss, so back to Nordstrom it went:
The Marc Jacobs is a great skirt, but more of a fall weight piece. Based on how much I have worn my Free People tan skirt this past month, it’s a keeper.
Under $50.00 over at ThredUp, I’m thinking I will pair it with a heavier weight top, and bootie or boots, this coming Fall/Winter.
So what pieces, were my workhorse items?
This was a surprise for me. If you asked me at the beginning of this experiment, what items I would wear the most – it would not have been the following:
Right side bar, top to bottom: Anthropologie Maeve pattern maxi (last summer) | Rag and Bone cold shoulder tee (link below) and Eric Javits fedora HERE | T-bags maxi dress. Read more on T-bags in the full post HERE | Joie black and white stripe midi dress (older style) Similar HERE | Free People frayed bottom skirt and Joie Aruna silk top. Similar HERE and HERE and in 5 prints over at Last Call HERE
My favorite purchase this month?
I love THIS tee from Rag and Bone – mostly for the fit. Shows some shoulder – but isn’t sloppy like many are (which includes one hanging in my closet from Velvet. It’s the stripe tee in the photos above. I like it for what it is, but this black tee is more polished – and no bra reveal). This faux wrap skirt is now under $50.00 over at Anthropologie, HERE. Paired with my Dolce Vita Lace-up sandals – also now on sale HERE. The ‘Linsey’ is also available on sale over at Bloomingdales.
I also love these slides from over at J Crew:
Newbark Roma Slide | Was $360.00, now $199.90 plus an additional 40% 0ff | HERE
With a comfortable footbed, for me these ran true to size. I wouldn’t wear them touring for the day, but for around town, I wore them all day long and found them to be comfortable. They do flip-flop like a thong sandal – just in case that happens to bug you.

Anyone else trying out the idea of a capsule wardrobe?
How about a partial capsule, where you only apply the concept to your packing strategy, or season?
Do you have a favorite, from the 30 outfits above?
Questions or comments, drop ’em down below! I respond to all comments, so fire away!
Last, a BIG thank you to my kids, who patiently took all these photos for me over the course of the month!
XOXO

PS Don’t forget the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Access begins next week. Card Holders can shop starting 7/14. My favorites, from the hot off the press Sale catalog will be up on the blog next week!
A quick note: “Blogs I Read” has been added back onto Ask Suzanne Bell. This is a list of blogs I personally follow, not all, but regulars. This page automatically updates – whenever the author posts something new. Therefore the most current post lands at the top. My hope is that this new format makes it easy, so you don’t have to hunt around for your favorites. While you are here visiting, you can simply pop on over and see what’s new out in the world of blogging. Not all are fashion or style blogs, you may just find one you love!

I love all the outfits in your capsule wardrobe! Your kids did a great job taking your photos! 🙂
by putting together and testing out a travel wardrobe weeks ago, I have been getting dressed with a modified capsule wardrobe for weeks now, and I love it. It truly makes getting dressed so much easier. It has also kept me from buying new items as I’m much more picky and always think if items will truly work with what’s in my closet. Sometimes less is truly more!
I love your cold shoulder top and was going to get it when you showed it weeks ago. Sadly it looks like it’s now not available in black anymore…
Thank you Andrea! I am giving them a break for a few days – they are off the hook! Bummer that the top is sold out..did you try other sites besides Nordstrom? I just had it on again today, its one of my favorite pieces right now. Ive been following along with your travel posts. I agree, less can be more and makes getting ready so much easier. I also realize that I am a collector and lover of style – so I will always be intrigued by fun pieces. Now I have a great selection of basics that I can grab or pack any day – and a small area for more “fun” pieces that I pick up at places like ThredUp etc. – or just along the way! I guess you could call it the area for my collectibles!
