Look though any blog, website, magazine or Instagram; you’ll see the easiest way to update your fall look is to crop your jeans. You’ve heard me talk about crops, crop flares, step crops many times here on the blog, but just this past spring did designers deliver a shoe to us mainstream customers that would flatter the cropped denim silhouette, that being the mule. If you experienced 90’s fashion at it’s best, you’ll recall the mule was an every girl must-have. I’ll admit I had a few; the Guess Western Stitch Mule (HERE on Etsy) to the Steve Madden Slinky – this was the “it” shoe! Missed the Slinky on the first go-around? I found it for you on the Steve Madden website, oh yes, view it (HERE).
Enough on mules, we’ll be dishing plenty on this must-have shoe in upcoming posts here on AskSuzanneBell. In keeping with easy everyday style, today’s look can be worn now, and later, as we transition into fall. It’s also a look that can easily be worn for Casual Friday at work when you keep to a dark, black or white denim wash. Personally, I avoid light, tight or distressed denim for the work place. Here in California, we kind of skip fall and go right into winter around mid-November. Warm days, with cool evenings and morning require light layers, as do air-conditioned office environments. Today’s look is so simple; a white tank, crop flare jean, long duster cardigan, easy slides- paired with a classic statement pendant, earrings and bangles, all in silver tone. For added daytime chic, I brought out one of my favorite convertible handbags, the Love Crossbody from Rebecca Minkoff. As the weather cools, I plan to switch my snake sandal out for a backless loafer style mule. This easy style can take me from school drop off, to a meeting or two, lunch with friends, a grocery store run and everything in between. When temps rise in the mid-afternoon, remove the cardigan but keep the pendant. Classic accessories and a topper are the key to keeping your denim look office appropriate and professional. I leave the bare arms for lunchtime and the drive home. I’ve also worn these same jeans with a cashmere sweater, as another work-place option. You’ll find it styled Classic Style with a Twist (HERE).
Note: My gold duster cardigan and silver pendant were kindly gifted to me from Coldwater Creek. As always, opinions and reviews are entirely my own.

Sizing Notes: I am wearing a Petite Small in the Illusion Ribbed Sheer Duster Sweater (HERE), an XS would have worked fine as well. I find Coldwater Creek to run on the larger side of sizing so check the size chart to get you size correct. The sleeves are full length, however I cuffed mine twice to a bracelet length, to show off my bangle stack.

Love that casual style. It is quite similar to my look. My favourite is a pair of skinny jeans from Dunnes that were under €25 topped with a white T-shirt from Marks and Spencer. My merino sweater coat is a Paul Costello which I picked up at the end of season sale at 70% off the regular price!
Hi Dee! SOunds like my kind of outfit! We don’t have Dunnes here in the states, but I hopped over to the website – what a great place to shop! I love a merino sweater coat in the winter and sounds like you got a great piece at a fabulous price!
thanks for dropping a line here, have a great weekend!
