Are you curious?
I was, when approached by ThredUP, a curated online consignment shop – to check out their online store.
Had I heard of ThredUP? Perhaps in passing.
Had I shopped the site? No, but I was ready!
I was given a $50.00 credit, to shop around, find something I loved, and style it up. It could be one item, or an outfit – I got to pick. I was all over the challenge. I love shopping consignment (some of my favorite pieces, are from consignment stores across the country), finding that special/unique item that I won’t see everywhere, and grabbing up a fabulous piece at a great price! I have bought and sold on Ebay for 14 years, and regularly consign items in my closet that I no longer wear. I love the idea, that even though I may be done with a garment, someone else out there may love it, and wear it all over again!
My #1 Goal this year for my closet. Buy and wear, only what I love.
Sounds simple, but we all know – easier said than done. To accomplish this goal, I must carefully choose what enters into my closet, as well as regularly purge, what is no longer working for me. (For Closet Cleanout Tips, pop on over to this AskSuzanneBell post, HERE )
Keeping my goal in mind, as I browsed the ThredUp site, I was on the look out for a LBD. I own one LBD, by Bailey44, but it is really best suited for work. I was looking for one I could wear to dinner, or dress it up for a cocktail party – with a bit more sass to it.
I shopped by favorite brand/size/color/style.
Here’s a look at a few of the runner-ups:
Luckily, I wrote down my goal; a LBD – as you can see I got a little distracted, with all the fabulousness!
I kicked in a few of my own dollars, to get the dress I really wanted.
Moschino sweater dress. Bonus; it was new with tags!
The original price on this dress, $380.00 | All in, I paid $73.84.
First time shoppers, get 40% off their purchase, so my order was slightly adjusted. This is an ongoing offer to new ThredUP customers, see site for details!
I added the Missoni floral dress to my order – I got really attached to the print, and couldn’t pass it up. And, since ThredUP offers easy, 14 day returns on most items – I figured, what the heck!
Next thing I knew,
this darling package was on my doorstep!
The Moschino dress was perfect, fabulous ,and everything I had hoped for!
My favorite part; the drapey detailing on the dress – fancy like a fancy ball gown.
Attached was this card, stating it had been inspected for authenticity.
Sadly, the Missoni dress; the open back, coupled with me needing to wear a shaper and bra with it, in order to leave the house – wasn’t going to work.
No biggie – I immediately sent it back (I printed my shipping label from home – so easy!), and look forward to selecting a new item from the huge selection, which appears to update with new styles, daily.
My package arrived last Thursday. Since I had a party to attend Saturday evening – I couldn’t wait to take my new dress, out on the town!
First, I had get into my closet and select the shoes and and bag.
To start, I tried out a few different looks.
First, with shoe/bag combo 1,2,3.
I like all three, let’s see how the rest of the look comes together.
Next, with a belt, belt/necklace, necklace only.
Last, with a cashmere wrap, fur bomber jacket, leather jacket.
The wrap, for me, covered up too many of the fun details on the dress, and the leather jacket – a bit casual.
I ultimately decided on this look:
with my DVF fur bomber jacket, green snakeskin t-strap pumps,
statement necklace, no belt and simple clutch.
on the way out the door, I added a belt,
and moved the clasp to the back,
as to not take away, from the statement necklace.
This belt trick, dates back in my days in the fashion industry. Sometimes, a belt buckle, coupled with a necklace, can overwhelm an outfit – especially if they are both unique pieces. By placing the buckle in the back, you still have the slimming effect of the belt, less clutter in the front, and a party in the back!
Voila!
Oh, lets not forget the nails,
Julep ‘Becky’, a fun greenish-grayish, sometimes purply color, HERE

Do you have goals for your closet for 2016?
How do you take control of your closet?
When are you most happy with your closet?
Do any of you consign items, that no longer work for you?
I find, knowing my gently loved item, is going to a new happy home, it makes it much easier to part with. When my closet is clean, organized, and full of pieces I love – I wear each item more, and love more outfits, that I put together!
Now back to cleaning – I think I have a few more items, I am now ready to part with!

You got a great dress and styled it perfectly! I have heard of Thread Up but have never given it a try.
Hi Andrea! Thanks for stopping by! You should for sure check it out! As I mentioned, I am a big consignment shopper already, I slowed up on Ebay, simply because I had picked up quite a few duds over the year – that I was then stuck to deal with. In a store I can try on, inspect, etc. ThredUp was not only super easy to shop, but I love the fact I can return. I have not consigned with them yet, but I plan to give it a try – so stay tuned. If you see something you like, they should have an offer for 40% off your 1st purchase. As you saw, I selected a designer piece – but I was shocked at the prices on pieces from Ann Taylor, J Crew (almost pulled the trigger on a $30.00 Chanel type jacket from J crew Collection) Gap and more, Have a great day! XO
I like the Tory Burch dress, I’m pretty good at moving things on in my wardrobe, but there’s always scope for improvement,
Hi Christine! I was so tempted by that Tory Burch dress. I went back and forth, back and forth…it almost happened, it could still happen, LOL! I feel I move on things ok, but as you mentioned, I like you, can always improve. Maybe so I stick with my goal, Ill take a photo of my closet now – then one in a year – it will force me to dig deep! XO
Suzanne,
Love the black dress, really attractive on you.
I have never heard of ThreadUp but will give
it a good look.
Great tips, thanks !
Hey Lynn! Thank you! I love this dress, it has such great detail – hard to capture it on photos, since it is all black. I found ThredUp to be similarly priced to pieces I would buy on eBay – but what I loved was the ease of shopping. Super easy to search and browse – real straight forward. The best part was the return policy. I love that if it doesn’t fit or I don’t like it, I can return it. That’s huge for me. Because the ship from San Leandro, my package arrived super quick. If you decide to try it out, they offer 40% off you purchase for first time users. I also have a code for $20 off you purchase, link above. XO
I saw some ad about Thred up and recalled that you did a post on it. so i went through it hoping you get any credit. wish me luck. I have some cleaning out to do!
I hope you get some great things you love Bonbara! I do love ThredUP! xx
