Have you ever discovered a fabulous find while shopping abroad, only to come home and struggle to style it with what’s available to you here in the States? Back in the day, when a fashion trend caught your eye in Europe, it could be 5 years before you saw a similar trend emerge in the US. Now, thanks to the internet and social media, we here in the US absorb European trends much sooner than before. Even so, our international friends continue to remain a good season ahead when it comes to trends, and when visiting abroad I look forward to observing what’s coming our way.
My most recent trip to Italy took place during the big “summer clearance” shopping period. This translated to great deals on summer styles with sprinkles of fall rolling in. But don’t think this stopped me from shopping for shoes, handbags, jewelry, and journaling about all the fabulous fashion and styling I observed. Last week I shared my obsession with Italian Pharmacies in the post, 6 Luxe Italian Pharmacies Finds (you can get caught up | HERE).
As we move on to talk about fashion and style, it’s important to note that many of the items on my list of 12 Trends to Watch are accessories. And why is that worth mentioning? Accessories allow us to update any look easily AND economically. For example, a pair of blush or clear frame sunglasses like THESE from Tom’s can make your entire outfit feel fresh. A 90’s style banana bag like THIS Rebecca Minkoff in olive, or a mini-handbag like THIS chic snake bag from TopShop, can work back to items in your closet – instantly elevating your look.
Today’s outfit share is a collection of pieces that are old and new – influenced by trends that caught my eye while in Italy. A dark floral midi-length skirt gets the look of a high waist with a graphic tee knotted above the waist. Not your everyday espadrille, if you look closely at mine, you will see a hint-of-loafer influence with a tassel atop the shoe. Square sunnies and mixed metal accessories finish off the look.

O-Bag
About this bag. Have you heard of O-bag? Made in Italy, the O-bag shop is worth a stop the next time you make a trip over the Atlantic. Sure, you can find O-bag in the States, but they are not readily available and the selection pales in comparison to what you will find in the cities of Italy. Each O-bag is fully customizable and can be mixed and matched to compliment any outfit, preference, or mood on the day. Now, how fun is that? And since each component is available separately, I had so much fun mixing and matching the various handles and liners to create different looks while visiting the boutique in Siena.
The choices are endless and the selection process can be overwhelming, but In the end, I opted for this olive-colored Classic Bag in lieu of a traditional black color as I feel olive green will be considered a neutral color for years to come. For components, I selected deep purple suede handles with a lavender canvas liner (above) plus a long handle strap in snakeskin with a neutral color liner for when I want to switch things up. I’d love to get a faux fur liner with black handles for the wintertime.

Hi Helen! So do you have O-bag where you live? We don’t have a store here, so when I saw them all over Italy, I was pretty excited! I do love mine, especially for work because I can fit my laptop and planner in it easily. Today at work I even had a second pair of shoes in there, LOL!
