How to Upcycle Items Found in Your Closet: DIY Boot Toppers

Before we get started on today’s fun accessory post, I need to tell you about a special group of women, who will be coming together in the blogging world, this Sunday. On February 19th, on the 50th day of the year, more than 50 women over the age of 50 will be coming together; each woman celebrating another woman in the group by connecting with and sharing their story of inspiration on their blogs. Hidden Treasures Found In The Closet: DIY Boot Toppers!

You never know what treasures you’ll find, when you start digging deep into your closet. While helping my girlfriend purge her closet last week, we came across a pair of mile long leg warmers. A beautiful color combo, these brand new Free People beauties would shine at Coachella – paired up with a burgundy bell sleeve tunic, booties, and a Wanderlust suede hat…you get the idea. Knowing we were not headed to Coachella anytime soon, when I said “So tell me about these”, we both laughed, and then…an idea. A fabulous idea! What do you say we cut them in half? We’ll have 2 sets of boot toppers! A free and easy way to breathe some fresh air into our grey winter closets!

She couldn’t get the scissors quick enough, and the cutting began.

Being she bought them because she loved the colors, they matched just about everything in her closet!

She insisted I take a pair home for myself -which I did, and styled them up the very next day!

You may not have a pair of extra long leg warmers hanging around, but how about an old sweater? An old pair of printed socks? You can make your own toppers from recycled clothing, be finished and out the door in a flash!

I have two ways to make your own boot toppers.

One uses an old sweater, and the second an old pair of socks.
