Weary of the jumpsuit/romper trend? I hear ya. Last season, I was skeptical as well, but let me say; I am now hooked!
Here’s my story. It’s no secret I am a huge fan of dresses, especially maxi styles. For me, dresses are designed make getting ready a cinch. Except for the shoes, there is no coordinating needed when wearing a dress. Throw one on – off you go! Easy to pack, they can go day to night, and when you find a style that works for you – they look great on! My first jumpsuit found it’s way into my closet, Spring of 2014. A beautiful blue, wide leg Vince Camuto number. I bought it, stewed on it awhile, and one evening wore it out to dinner with the hubby. Not only did I feel confident, but the husband loved it as well – bonus! Since, I have been hooked. I once explained to a girlfriend – just think of it as a maxi dress with legs. Bottom line, jumpsuits show off your figure way more than a maxi dress does, are just as comfortable, and carry an air of sophistication. The most difficult part is, finding a jumpsuit fits. Like a dress, the top portion needs to flatter, the bottom half can usually be altered. Look for styles that work for you in a dress, i.e.: wrap style, halter, short sleeve etc. I currently own 3 jumpsuits and 2 rompers – with my eye on a third, for when it goes on sale.
Rompers? If you wear shorts, you can work a romper. The key for us ladies over 40, is to avoid looking “girly” – I prefer “sassy” myself. Keep the romper at a modest length, in a beautiful fabric and if needed, throw a longer cardigan or kimono over it, so you feel a bit more covered up. I’d love to find a casual knit one to wear in lieu of a dress on hot summer days.

Rompers
When visiting Hawaii last year, I packed my navy blue silk romper by Parker. I have to admit, I felt a bit self conscious – no one else was wearing one. This year? They were everywhere from the pool to dinner. I packed 2 in my suitcase and wore them both multiple times. This year, my some romper felt like a fresh update.
Here, I added my Lilly for Target kimono, and my Kendra Scott Rayne Pendant (select colors slated to be on sale for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. More details HERE ) for a bit more coverage in the evening.

Really like the jumpsuits – at only 5ft 2 I’m not sure they are for me though.
Hi Christine! Thanks for dropping a comment! I think if you are considering trying one out, I would look for one made for petites. Like a dress, the key with jumpsuits is getting the proportions right for your body type. For example, even though I am tall, many simply do not work for me. I have had the best luck when trying a brand that I already like the fit of their dresses on me. Once you find one that works in the top, you may have to alter the bottom half. Then put on some heels for height. I have seen many available on Nordstrom.com in petite sizing, I would start there if you are thinking of trying one out. Hope you are enjoying the summer! XO
Oh woman…. you make me sigh. The various ways you wore that black jumpsuit… so versatile. My body is not easy for a jumpsuit. And you just sold me on to the idea. With no hips and no bum, but with old arms to conceil… it is not going to be easy. But you look fantastic in each and every one of them (Ann too by the way).

Greetje… If anyone can do it you can! I have to say, they do need to offer more jumpsuits and rompers with sleeves. I have been looking for awhile for a romper with long sleeves and it is hard to find! I love the black jumpsuit that Ann is wearing in this photo. Its a challenge to find the perfect one, but, that’s what makes fashion fun, the adventure! Thank you for stopping by! Suzanne
