Out here in California, early spring dressing is all about layers.
Temps can range anywhere from 50 degrees early morning to 80 degrees mid-afternoon.
Unless you want to perform and outfit change three times a day, you need to layer things up!
During spring transition my key pieces are:
Booties or ballet flats
Short sleeve tees and tanks (for when it hits high 70’s)
I swap out my sweaters for lightweight jackets; denim, leather and lightweight tweed
Skirts and lightweight denim
Dresses/maxidresses (I bring out last years spring styles)
Lightweight scarves (for early morning chill)
A typical spring day out here in these parts goes about like this:
Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE our weather out here and as long as you can figure out how to layer, you are in great shape all day long!
The key here is being able to strip layers down as temperatures rise during the day.
Here’s a peek into my Monday
Off to an early morning meeting; all layers on
It’s getting warmer. The scarf comes off and is tied to my satchel in lieu of stuffing it into my handbag to wrinkle into a hot mess!
Early afternoon, jacket off and scarf tied back in in a different fashion.
Now it’s hot! Scarf off with layered necklaces.
Early evening and back home, jacket back on!
Outfit Details:
Skirt: Trouve pleated midi skirt | Pocket tank: Rag & Bone | Leather jacket: Hinge | Booties: Cole Haan
Handbag: OryAny | Scarf: Boden USA | Necklace : Stella & Dot | Watch: Michael Kors
One of my favorite accessories during this time of year are scarves – they instantly change up your look!
I love scarves from Boden, J Crew, Madewell, DVF and Tory Burch. I also have found cute ones for less in the Junior and Trend departments at Nordstrom as well as at Target.

Let’s take a look at a few more layered looks from this week.
Off to work!
Still in my tall boots but I ditched the tights from winter. The sheath dress is sleeveless to prevent overheating in the afternoon.
Out to dinner!
Again, still in my winter booties but I lightened the look with a knit maxi dress – a fabulous transition piece this time of year.
Early springtime can be tricky as it is still be a bit chilly for sandals, but you may find yourself sweating it out in your tall boots and skinny jeans that you lived in all winter long.
Have some thoughts or a comment?
I’d love to hear, let me know. To do so, scroll down below.
Summer heat will be here before you know it – but until then layer up and enjoy this transition time of the year to it’s fullest!
XOXO

Wow, you have really described our weather well and exactly how to dress for it. Love the skirt you were wearing Monday. http://www.yummomummo.blogspot.com
Hi Melissa! Thanks for stopping by and leaving your thoughts! You know it’s funny, I bought that skirt as a kind of “fringe” item back in October not sure how much I would wear it with the midi length and all and you know, I wear it all the time! I am excited for skirts for #SS15, I think they are a great wardrobe update! XO
Getting ready for work at 7:00 am. I was wondering what to put myself in for the fructuating temperature. Great tips! Thank you, Suzanne!
Hi Masako! Today the weather is especially odd, I hope you were able to pull something together. This late winter/spring transition time I find to always be a bit challenging! Thanks for your comments! Have a great day! XO
