Be it a festive holiday party or a girls’ night out, your evening will start off more relaxed if you have a few outfits planned out ahead of time. So to help in the planning process, I’ve partnered with the crew of #StylishMonday to bring you some outfit inspiration, in the event you’re in need of a few more ideas to get you through the Holiday Season.
Now when it comes to what to wear over the holidays, most of us manage to get the black-tie event covered with either a gown, jumpsuit or cocktail dress, but other holiday events can be a bit trickier to outfit. I find the most common “outfit anxiety-causing events” are Holiday Daytime, Holiday House Party, Ladies Luncheon and Evening Cocktail Party which is why I’ve broken today’s looks into separate categories. That said, there are lots of crossovers when it comes to selecting what to wear, so use the categories only as a guide. As you’ll see, a sequin midi skirt can work for any of these 4 categories – depending on how you style it! A must-have in my holiday season line up, I’ve rounded up a collection of sequin skirts starting at $24.99 for you to browse at the bottom of today’s post. So grab some inspiration and create a look of your own – most of all have fun, after all, it IS the most wonderful time of the year. Enjoy!

Holiday Daytime
There are many daytime events when we want to feel festive but not overdone. Shopping, events at the kid’s school, breakfast with girlfriends, volunteering, holiday markets, holiday shows or simply running errands are all examples of times when if we swapped out or yoga pants for something more festive – we might just feel a bit more put together and in the spirit of the season. I love how Andy’s graphic sweatshirt elevates her jeans look to a whole new level. And don’t save your sparkle for nighttime. A sequin midi skirt (my exact skirt | HERE) or joggers will elevate your everyday tee and boyfriend cardigan to a whole new level of festiveness.

Ladies Holiday Luncheon
Depending on the venue, luncheons often involve a few hours of sitting which is why I usually choose knits or pants with stretch as my go-to pieces. A sweater dress and boots is always a wining combo as is anything plaid, as seen on Julie below. Any of these looks would work for a holiday office luncheon as well.

Holiday House Party
When dressing for a holiday party in the home, the first questions I’d ask is are you a guest or are your hosting?
If you are the hostess, comfortable shoes are a must as is clothing you can move around in. I avoid heavy knits when hosting as I heat up quickly … who wants to be a sweaty hostess?
As the guest, have some fun! Your hostess took the time to plan a fun party for you to attend, so make an effort to be festive! Short on time? Pull up the hair, add some sparkly jewelry, metalic boots (like Nancy’s), and show up and shine!

Evening Cocktail Mixer
If your evening event is cocktails with friends or spouse, I say go as festive, sexy, and sparkly as you feel comfortable wearing. But if the mear thought of “Work Appropriate Cocktail Attire” makes your head spin, here’s a quick checklist.
- Keep the skirt/dress length modest
- Beware body-con – save it for outside the office
- If you choose to go bare, add a blazer, jacket, or wrap in the event you over did the sexy factor
- Unsure of the venue? Black is always safe
- If you opt to wear denim, make it black denim – off with a fabulous statement jacket or blazer

Suzanne
Suzanne, ive just SNAGGED A cute sequin skirt and need some atyle iDeas to dress it down for an office party. Thoughts?
Do I have ideas??? Oh yes!
My first thought for an office party would be to pair it with a cashmere sweater – fitted or oversized – whatever your comfort zone is. I also like it witha fitted cardigan. stick with a solid color so the skirt can shine. I would love to see you pair it with a bright color sweater if the skirt is black. I like how emma paired her sweater with her silver skirt.
Depending on how casual the party is, your could also wear a graphic tee with it. If you want to Dress way down, try a graphic tee, crop denim jacket and sneakers.
Dress it up more with a duster cardigan. Think of it as a black skirt – not sequins and forget about the sequin only for evening idea.
hope that helps!
