Itching to check out what’s new for fall, I grabbed my power shopper girlfriend Summer and we headed for Nordstrom. Weather temps are still in the high 80’s, but, with the kids back in school, we decided it was time for some fun. Whohoo! Nordstrom was having a sale! Fueled by large sized caramel lattes, we hit the shoe department! If you missed the memo, I love booties for fall. For a fun update, I think wedge booties are great for us Moms, they give us some heel height with comfort. Waaat? A nice leg booster and walkable? Didn’t know that was possible! Comfort and chic in the same sentence, sign me up! For us gals living in mild climates, booties transition easily into fall. Why sweat it out all day in a full boot? Peep toe booties are everywhere and I couldn’t be happier. I am a sandal girl at heart and peep toes don’t squish my toes. I find that peep toe styles are more comfortable for me. #nosquishedtoes. And why hide a fun gray pedicure in a closed toe shoe? I am all about showing off those toes and as much skin for as long as possible. At Nordstrom, there were so many new styles to check out. We were on a mission, for an awesome bootie. The criteria was; comfortable, cute, updated from last fall and a good value. We found lots of options that fit our criteria, score! Here’s a peek at what we tried on. After a quick fashion show, these three made it into the shopping bag: Why these three? Let me tell ya! DV by Dolce Vita ‘Posie’ Wedge Bootie HERE available in black and taupe, $89.95 NOW ON SALE FOR $59.90. I love this bootie! While we were trying on our assortment of wedge booties, I found that some were a little wide looking. I don’t know about you, but, I don’t need my feet looking any wider or larger that they already are! This wedge was flattering on the foot and leg (win win!) AND so comfortable. A perfect heel height put this bootie on the top of our list.
Quick sidebar: while in the shoe department, surrounded by shoes, my girlfriend Cindy saw us and came dashing over. She literally stopped in her tracks, looked down at our feet and said “What are those? I love them! I want them! I have to have them!” I thought she might take the shoe right off Summer’s foot when she heard how comfortable this little bootie was. They were out of Cindy’s size. But, no worries, Cindy quickly handed her credit card over to our darling sales gal, who placed the order to be shipped, RIGHT THEN AND THERE! It was such an awesome shoe bonding moment! Next up, this stripy sandal. Kenneth Cole Reaction ‘Spark It’ Sandal HERE available in black, copper and fog. Was $98.95, now $66.29 This cute number went home with me. I was really torn between the black and fog color. I love the copper as well. My size was sold out. Well, not entirely sold out as you can see me trying on one shoe in the photo above. I’ll restate, there was one shoe in my size. We couldn’t find the mate. No worries though, we ordered my size from another store, no problem. I did size down a 1/2 size, I felt these ran a little long. The sales gal had not really heard that to be the case, maybe it was just me. I plan to wear these with rolled up jeans, skirts and dresses. Bonus, they were super comfortable. On my way home I called a friend about my find and she immediately got online and ordered the copper color! I think these sandals are a big bang for the buck! KG Kurt Geiger ‘Sevillle’ Peep Toe Bootie HERE in black, Nordstrom, $195 now $97.49. Similar HERE and HERE I saw this bootie online and fell in love with the tassel and zipper. I thought the heel height looked walkable which is a big win for me. Why have a great pair of shoes if you can’t walk around town in them? These came quickly via UPS and I could not be happier! I would have bought these at regular price. The fact they were 50% off was icing on the cake. A note on sizing, Kurt Geiger uses european whole sizing. Getting your correct size is the hardest part. I ordered a 39 (8) and 40(9). The 39 is great. I usually do not buy size 8’s but, the 9 was way too loose. I can also tell they will stretch a bit. These are a keeper! Lucky Brand ‘Jaspah’ Peep Toe Wedge Bootie HERE available in black, brindle (taupe) and leopard, Nordstrom, $118.95
This shoe did not come home with either of us. It is so cute and fit all the criteria, I wanted to give it an honorable mention. While we were trying these on, customers kept coming over telling us what a cute shoe it was. It is comfortable, cute, updated and a good value. This may find it’s way into my closet sooner than later. On my Wish List!
Finished in the shoe department, we headed to the denim department. There are so many great denim options out there. Truly, a fit and style for everyone. Favorites in my closet are, Paige, J Brand and AG. I think Seven and Mother offer fabulous fits as well. Now, the jeans I just listed all carry a$150/$200 and up price tag. With denim, fit can be tough, yet, so important. It is so personal. If you are a denim girl, and you wear denim all the time, I think it is money well spent. If you find a brand of jeans (for me this is AG) that are comfortable, don’t stretch out AND make you feel and look great, splurge! A good pair of denim will stay in my closet year after year until they are out of style or have had a full life. That said, I realize not everyone loves premium denim. Maybe, you don’t want to spend over $100 on an everyday pair of jeans. I get it! I was thrilled when I discovered Nordstrom carried KUT from the Kloth.
KUT popped on my radar a few years ago when I would meet my girlfriends for coffee and one of them would be wearing KUT. I remember asking, “What jeans are those? So dang cute!” Over and over these babies kept popping up on my radar, until, I decided to check them out for myself. So happy I did. KUT is a a great go-to brand of denim. KUT offers many styles in regular, petite and plus sizes. The quality is great as is the fit. Not every style is for everyone, but, when you find your fit you will be happy. Best is, they are under $100! The first pair I purchased was the ‘Catherine’ Boyfriend Jean. I have girlfriends that swear by the ‘Diana’ Skinny Jean. There are some new styles I was anxious to check out, so we headed to the Point Of View Department at Nordstrom to take a look. From Left to Right; KUT ‘Reese’ Stretch Ankle Straight Leg Jean (Encouraging) HERE | KUT Cuff Straight Leg Jean, no longer online, available HERE | KUT ‘Natalie’ Bootcut Jeans (Exceptional) HERE The ‘Reese’ Straight Leg Jean was the best of the three in my opinion. I liked everything about the fit. The rise was just right. The leg opening did not flair out like some crop jeans do . It was super comfortable. The waist did not gap when I sat down (big seller for me). I think this jean is great for fall. It can be rolled up or not and is the perfect length to show off all those great booties. The Cuff Straight Leg Jean. This jean has a really flattering waist band. It has the same double button and wider waistband as the ‘Natalie’ bootcut jean, which I like because it really holds everything in, if you know what I mean! Something about the big cuff , made this not as flattering on me as the ‘Reese’ jean. This was a pass for me. ‘Natalie” Bootcut Jean. If you are in the market for a bootcut, look no further! This jean is super flattering in the front, back, rear and waist. It has all the bells and whistles of a flattering jean. I have so many boot cut styles in my closet, for an update, I would go with the straight leg jean. On the hunt for a fun hoop earring, we spotted this fun pair. A hoop with a twist! Leith ‘G’ Hoop Earring in Gunmetal, also available in Silver and Gold HERE $28.00 Then… Deux Lux Tote ‘Elle’ Tote, In black, red (love), navy and taupe HERE $75. The fun tassel is what caught our eye from across the store. So sassy! Fun, nice sized tote to carry all your goodies. There was one last sale item on the list, Halogen Cashmere High/Low Tunic Sweater HERE, now sold out online. Similar HERE Regular price $148/now $87.90. The same style is now available in stripes at regular price. I love the High/Low cut of this sweater. For me, this is a great basic when the weather gets chilly. I like that it is long enough to cover my rear in skinny jeans. A few reviews say it is itchy. Is it the softest cashmere I own? No. For the price, it’s a keeper because I love the style of the sweater. Reviews said to size down, I am happy I did. I went with the XS and I am normally a small.
