For the past two months I have been a mission in search of the perfect shoe to update my fall look. The criteria? Chic, on-trend, walkable and comfortable. Is that too much to ask? The chic-on-trend part is easy, there are so many beautiful styles to choose from right now. The comfortable-walkable part, now that’s a whole other story. Sure, I’ll suffer through an evening in pain in order to strut a gorgeous shoe that complete’s my outfit. But for daytime, no way. I no longer have the patience for that business.
The answer to my prayers…a loafer, mule or a loafer mule!
Easier said than done…
I ordered many a shoe online – from Nordstrom to Target. Searched second hand shops, boutiques, online retailers and blogs. You name it, I’ve looked. The issue has been fit. I “walk out of” most loafer mule styles. It finally took a trip to the mall with Mom, who knows my style inside and out, to find my perfect match.
Before we get to my Cinderella Story, here’s a look at what I tried out along the way. Just because most of these didn’t work for me, doesn’t mean they aren’t a perfect match for someone else. Most of these shoes have great reviews, it’s why I tried them on. We all are blessed with our own unique shape, size and taste. Here’s a look at my journey.

BP Maddy Mule
Super cute and under $70.00 this mule instantly caught my eye! Sadly it is too wide for my foot. Otherwise it’s comfortable and spot on trend. I love the red and grey color. 163 reviews at Nordstrom.com.
Rebecca Minkoff Alexis Stud Knotted Mule
Currently price-matched at Nordstrom with 25% off ($112.50), this is a darling shoe. I love the black with studs here, however it is also is available in a really pretty crushed velvet. For me the bow was just a little too big. 10 reviews at Nordstrom.com.
Michael Kors Nadia Loafer Mule
Such a classic, I almost kept this one. It is also available in red and tan.
I think it is a cute one with skinny jeans.
Merona Kona Brocade Mule Loafer @Target
These are not my size, but I wanted to show the shoe on. If these come back into stock in my size, I may pick these up. At $22.99, these are a big bang for your fashion buck.
Also available in silver and black. Note, I would go up 1/2 a size from my regular size.
Gentle Souls Rory Mule Sneaker
My girlfriend and I both tried these on and agreed they are sooo comfortable. She ended up purchasing the pink color which looked great on her lighter skin tone. She thought she would love the grey color, but we all agreed that the pink was more complimentary! Sizing was TTS. Available in 4 colors. Great reviews available online at Nordstrom.com.
Lewit Bianca Embroidered Loafer Mule
I thought this shoe was really flattering on the foot. It has a low block heel so if you are like me and “walk out” of your shoes, you may like this one. I love the color, a rich blue embroidery. What stopped me from buying it was the price. I felt like $200 was a little steep for such a trendy shoe. I did size up a 1/2 size as these do run small. I may consider these if they go on sale in the future.
A New Day ‘Poppy’ d’Orsay Ballet Flat @ Target
No, this is not a loafer mule, but it would have served the same purpose so I’m sharing it. This shoe for me ran true to size and was pretty comfortable for the price of $22.99. More colors available.
And the winner is…
The leopard calf hair Dolce Vita Pali Mule (HERE)
So why this shoe?
For one, it is like wearing a slipper all day long – seriously, it’s so comfortable for me. It is flat, but because it comes up higher on my foot, it stays on. Plus it’s leopard print, so how could I resist? This shoe will replace my summer thong and flip flop sandals, which is what I was in search of. Here’s a quick look on how I wore these with a casual denim look on a lazy weekend day.
PS The black mule loafer my girlfriend is wearing above, she says is is comfortable. I can’t find here exact shoe, but here is a very similar style by Vince Camuto over at the Nordstrom Rack (HERE)| $59.97.

Gosh those leopard mules are too cute.
I love them! Thank you for helping me find them! They are so comfortable and work with so many looks! xx
They’re lovely, suzanne, the leopard pair that went home with you 🙂 i don’t own loafers and i doubt my fascia will ever let me but i can see how comfy they are!!!
Thank you Sheela! I do love these, they are like slippers! I did pick up a pair of gucci look alikes – the flat mule with the fur peeking out from Jeffrey Campbell. I am such a flip flop gal, these mules, when they fit right, are a nice winter option. Luckily my feet still allow me to wear these, but I know for many women, mules, loafers and flip flops are a disaster. There are so many mules out there right now and they are not for everyone…I foresee large sale racks come late November on many! xx
