Last week we covered the everyday, everywhere black slip dress. Now, it’s time to discuss her alter ego, the classic LBD sheath along with a tweener, the black sweater dress. A bit more formal, the black sheath can take you beyond 9-5 with ease and elegance. In the graphic below, you’ll find 14 ways to style a simple sheath, for just about any occasion. As I mentioned last week, pick a silhouette that works best for YOU, not what an article, blog post or Pinterest says is best for YOU. For example, my personal dress of choice is a sheath, preferably a midi length. I own two, both very similar to the one featured in the graphic below. One is a lighter weight knit crew neck style; the other a ponte knit. I also own a cashmere turtleneck sleeveless sweater midi dress – which I’ve styled for us as well.
Now, YOU on the other hand, may prefer an above-the-knee, body-con, fit-and-flare, asymmetrical, or aline silhouette. If you want maximum re-mixing ability, I would suggest a sleeveless or cap sleeve style to allow for layering. That said, a long sleeve would provide many options as well, if you prefer to cover your arms and only deal with layers over the dress. Ponte knits are right on trend this season and allow one to mover around with ease and comfort all day long.
My Two Cents On The Little Black Dress
I have two, very different black dresses within my essentials. One, is a basic below the knee knit sheath (for work) and the other is a black slip dress for days I choose to be less formal. For today, I gathered up 7 looks to show just how versatile and all-season the right piece can be – if it right for YOUR lifestyle and YOUR body type….You can read more on these 7 looks along with 5 pieces we all need in our closet, by linking over to Friday’s style post (HERE)

I have a LOT of sleeveless black dresses and never wear something underneath. Well, a basic tee and then a cardigan over the dress. I will experiment a bit with your ideas! Thanks
