Before I get going on September Birchbox reviews, I need to do a quick recap on gray nails. This past Wednesday, in the post “Exploring the Gray Area” HERE , I talked about stepping out of our comfort zones and trying something new. I was excited to see so many readers jump on board! Last night at a party I ran into some chic gray nails. Here are a few pictures from readers who are already exploring the gray area.
Today I picked up a bottle of OPI How Great is Your Dane? HERE This is a grayish brown shade from the new OPI Nordic Collection. I will be trying this shade out this weekend and will be sure to share!
While picking my polish up today, I asked the salesgirl which grays were the most popular sellers. She said Essie Chinchilly HERE and OPI You Don’t Know Jaques HERE. Neither of these shades are brand new, so if you are wanting a tried and true tested color you could start with either of these 2 gorgeous shades of gray. Have any of you tried out a new shade of gray? Please do share… I love hearing what new colors are out there!
Let’s get on to Birchbox. I waited in anticipation for my September Birchbox to arrive on my doorstop. I checked my porch daily. Finally, my box arrived last week.
If you caught my review of the August Birchbox you know I was over the moon excited! I loved every piece in the box, including the shampoo set. Read reviews from last month HERE. I gotta be honest, this month my box left me feeling a little flat.
I will start by saying the box itself is very cute. September is an anniversary month for Birchbox. I can see that there was some extra effort put in to sending my products in a pretty box. Ok, that was nice. But the products this month did not really speak to me. Included in my box were 3 high-end products, a body balm and a lip balm that is available at Target HERE. That said, I love the lip balm and will be buying more when my full size sample runs out. The balm alone runs $8.00 and since I only paid $10.00 for my box I am OK with my investment. Sometimes you love every piece in the box and other times maybe only one or two. Hey, I get to try out 5 customized beauty products and if I don’t like them, no biggie, it’s $10.
Here is the low-down:
Harvey Prince “Hello”. This spritz is citrusy which I like. I am very particular about fragrance and this was a little too sweet-smelling for me. It is nice and light, if you get a chance to sample it check it out.
Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Serum. This serum is made with exotic botanicals and is said to firm, brighten and ward off wrinkles. I tried it and honestly it is difficult to evaluate a serum unless I try it out for 2 weeks or more. It does have a nice feel and like all Origins products smells nice.
Perlier Moisturizing Body Balm in shea lavender. This is an Italian skincare brand. I love the feel and texture of any shea product. What didn’t work for me was the scent. I love lavender. This particular lavender was too strong for me so it is a pass. Too bad because I loved the feel of this balm.
Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel HERE. This product is an acid-free peel that is said to exfoliate for smoother and brighter skin. I found this product interesting. Interesting in a way of no other product that I have every tried. I massaged it in and literally, dead skin was rolling off. It surprised me at first, but once I got over my face peeling off I was intrigued. This product is to be used weekly and I have enough leftover to try it out a few more times.
This product has great reviews. Here are a few:
- I have ordered this amazing peel in the past from Real Chemistry and I’m super excited to see it on Birchbox.com. What an amazing product. Most products promise results after a few weeks of use – this product delivers the very first time you use it. I have issues with occasional breakouts and uneven skin tone. Since I started using the Real Chemistry peel, I simply don’t have those issues anymore. My friends and family literally stop me and say….”what did you have done? You skin is glowy and amazing….” And here’s the best part….for $48 I get about 20 peels out fo the tube. That’s about 20 weeks so I only have to buy the product about 3-4 times per year to look absolutely flawless everyday! This stuff totally rocks
- This was my favorite sample this month. The product, removes dead skin in a snap and it leaves your skin super soft!! I love it
Stay tuned on this one, too early to tell for me.
Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Ripe Raspberry HERE . Winner winner chicken dinner! I love this product! This lip balm not only moisturizes with shea butter (yeah!), but has some color that actually stays on. Best part? It is $8.00! For those of you familiar with Sugar Fresh lip treatment HERE, this reminds me a lot of Sugar Fresh at a third of the price. I put this on before my yoga class and layered on my all-time favorite Sara Happ lip gloss HERE . I got out of class and was shocked that this balm had stayed on for over 2 hours! I like that it is not a stain product as stains dry out my lips. I have been wearing it everyday since and I really like it.
Well, that is a wrap for this month’s Birchbox reviews! I look forward to what my October box has in store for me. If you want to read more about Birchbox, reviews and subscription box programs click HERE.
