Confession: I am not much for stripes. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE stripes on EVERYONE ELSE, and will wear them on occasion, but honestly, they just don’t feel like “me”. As my style has evolved over the years, it’s become clear that my comfort zone sways the bohemian direction; unpredictable and a little messy. Perhaps stripes, in their perfection, are a bit too predictable for me. It’s strange, I get compliments when I wear a stripe something, but I feel much more myself in a beautiful floral or graphic print. Once in awhile I’ll stumble upon a piece, that despite the stripe factor, I love the styling – as is what happened with today’s dress.
Styled today with a vintage Kate Spade bag, un-earthed while thrifting with Kim of Northern California Style – the day after the passing of Kate Spade…how could I say no? You’ve seen me wear these Tory Burch Wedge Miller Sandals before – yes, they are a favorite! I gave my Aviators a rest, swapping them out for a pair of round nude colored sunnies from Ferragmo. Simple silver hoops and bangle stack allow a dress such as this, to speak for itself.
Let’s Chat!
As much as I love how this dress looks on, I continue to pull my floral and bohemian print dresses out time and time again. It’s curious. Do you wear stripes? Do you find you gravitate more in one direction; florals or stripes? Do you think our personalities play a role in the prints we chose to wear?
I invite you to weigh in, let me know what you think in the comments down below and whatever you choose to wear this week, wear what you love and feel your best self in, that’s a winning combo every time!

I like and will wear both stipes and floral…I don’t consider myself boho in the least. I think it looks amazing on others just not on me. Similar to your thoughts about stripes.
Isn’t it interesting? I guess that is the fun of the fashion journey, discovering what really feels like “you” … It’s one of the reasons I am now super careful about buying what others are wearing on IG. I used to see a fabulous look and think, I can do that and buy the pieces. A better choice might be to take a fab look, then try to re-create it with items in my closet – styled in “my way”. THanks for stopping by Julie! xx
I didn’t get it when everyone was obsessed about stripes, until I started print mixing. Now I love them!!

Now that Jodie is something I’ll need to try! Mixing stripes with other patterns, that eclectic mix I could get into! Thanks for the idea! xx
Hi Suzanne,
I wear striped (vertical only) tailored shirts with pencil skirts, but that’s about it. I find that many striped patterns are either horizontal or diagonal and at 5’2″, neither are doing me any favors!
Thinking about your question about personality and what we wear, I completely agree with you. My style has evolved to highly tailored, well fitted professional wear and graphic tees and jeans for casual.
Thanks, as always for all your fashion tips!

Hi Tina! Thanks for dropping a line! Vertical stripes with a pencil skirt look so chic for work. And graphic tees with denim for dress down, love it! I was thinking about all this and it ocured to me that when we don’t like what we are wearing on a particular day, it’s probably not the outfit but the simple fact what we chose to wear that day doesn’t fit how we feel inside. It takes some evolving to really understand our own personal style, but once we do…boy it all gets so much easier! xx
Stripes are, in my head, the best pattern TO mix. Your dress looks great on you, very girlie. In a good way!
Hi Nancy! You know jodie just mentioned that she loves to pattern mix with stripes, perhaps I need to mix and match a few combos and see if the stripes grow on me! I know many women love stripes because it is so easy to pop on a stripe something with a solid, and have an instant outfit. Thanks for dropping me a line! xx
Hi Suzanne,
I do wear some stripes but not a lot, much more a floral girl. I am sure our personalities play a role, have you ever put something on and just didn’t feel comfortable no matter how good it looked? yep that’s my personality saying “are you kidding me”
My personality dose that a lot!!!
Love the dress xxx
Yes, I have worn many an outfit, gotten compliments on it, yet couldn’t wait to go home and take it all off! How wierd is that? I believe that is why it is so important to try different combos, and feel confident to just wear what feels like us, not matter what the trend or others are wearing. I think then we can feel at one with what is inside AND out. Thanks for your feedback Helen! xx
P.S. I would have bought the KS bag too!
Oh thank you, I do love this bag! It was in my local thrift store and when Kim and I went in that day, she told us it had just gone to 50% off! Lucky me, we were meant to be together!
I love a french striped sailor shirt. that is my go to when I lack inspiration in the morning. It always looks put together even when that is the opposite of my frame of mind 😉
And you always look so great in stripes! I love your style. I have heard many women who love stripes like them for the reason you mentioned…easy to pull a look together. out the door quick but a step up from head to toe black 🙂 THanks for dropping me a line! xx
I’M A STRIPE GIRL *AND* A FLORAL GIRL! aND A BOHO GALL…BUT ONLY IN MY MIND. LIKE YOU AND STRIPES, ANYTIME I WEAR A FULL-ON BOHO LOOK, I JUST FEEL…DRESS-UPPY, LIKE COSTUME-ME, NOT LIKE REAL ME. IT *IS* FUNNY, HOW PEOPLE GRAVITATE TOWARDS DIFFERENT LOOKS. THERE MUST BE SOME RESEARCH ON THAT SOMEWHERE…AND IF NOT…LET’S DO IT! 🙂

Hi Bettye! Thank you for dropping me a line. YOu bring up a great point, I think sometimes we label ourselves a certain “look” – perhaps we see it on someone else and think it looks appealing, yet as you said it’s in our mind. Then we re-create these looks, and they don’t feel like us or perhaps do not match our lifestyles. For example, I LOVE glam looks and LOVE LOVE cocktail dresses, but I always have to pause when trying one on and aks myself “where the heck am I wearing this number?” and say no. I love the science behind style and fashion. I believe what we wear really reflects how we feel each and every day. And I know I want to make the best of each day and not be bothered with if I am unhappy with my outfit – wouldn’t that be amazing! Let’s stay on the journey – we will get there! Thinking it out is the first step, right? xx Suzanne
Very fresh. I love stripes & florals and i def consider my style sort of boho.
Thank you! I may trying to mix my stripes with florals to see if I feel the love. Another thing I notice when I do wear stripes, I gravitate to vertical vs horizantal. isn’t it all so interesting? xx
