A few weeks ago, I walked right by this Utility Jacket, over at Target.
By Who What Wear, a hot wrinkled mess, it was squished into a rack with way too much stuff. Luckily for this little guy, I happen to love olive green, so it got a second look – at which point I decided to give it a try, over the workout clothes I was wearing.
After rolling the sleeves up about 6 times (there is WAY to much fabric on this jacket) and cinching in the waist, by pulling the drawstring and making knots – I imagined it pressed.
At $39.90 it was too good to pass up, so it came home with me.
A linen/rayon blend, I wore it everyday last week. 5 days in a row – I think it’s already exceeded an acceptable price-per-wear number.
If you caught Saturdays post, you saw how I created a Capsule Wardrobe for Summer. This jacket is one of 3 jackets in the Capsule (I’d like to have 4).
I do own a Utility Jacket by Rag and Bone that I love – but it is a fall/winter weight jacket that is too heavy for summertime. This number fit the bill perfectly!
Here’s a look:
DAY 1
Hanna Skirt (Poshmark Find!) | Vince Camuto hobo bag | Paul Green lace-up sandals | BP Lace up tank
Pushing or rolling the sleeves up, is key for summertime.
DAY 2
Super casual, for a day at school with the kids
Joie gold tank top | AG boyfriend jeans | Sam Edelman sandals
DAY 3
Joie maxi dress; knotted on the sides with hair ties (keeps the hem out of the wet pool deck!) | Vince Camuto slides | Gorjana necklace
Day 4
Headed out to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk with the kids. The lightweight jacket was perfect, for the early morning chill.
Tied around the waist, when the sun came out.
Rag and Bone cold shoulder tee | Pilcro denim shorts | Eric Javits fedora hat | Birkenstock sandals in bronze.
DAY 5
Since the jacket is shirt-weight, its easy to tie around the waist or roll up in your bag (though it will wrinkle due to the linen) | Le SAC cross body bag.

A quick note: “Blogs I Read” has been added back onto Ask Suzanne Bell. This is a list of blogs I personally follow, not all, but regulars. This page automatically updates – whenever the author posts something new. Therefore the most current post lands at the top. My hope is that this new format makes it easy, so you don’t have to hunt around for your favorites. While you are here visiting, you can simply pop on over and see what’s new out in the world of blogging. Not all are fashion or style blogs, you may just find one you love!

I do love a good olive green army style jacket. I have one that i’ve had for years that serves me well.
You show just how versatile they can be.
I really love the outfit with the skirt with the oversized pockets. Super cute.

Hi Suzanne! Thank you for stopping by! I too love the Hanna skirt with the pockets! It was thrift find over at Poshmark. It’s different than anything else in my closet – which makes it extra fun! Did you know my dog is Zoey as well? How fun is that?

I actually have two olive green utility jackets. One is rayon (a bit heavier – nice for fall) with a cinched waist and the other one (summer weight cotton) is more like an a-line shape with a longer tunic length. Sometimes I wear the longer one like a tunic over skinny jeans with the sleeves rolled up. I get a lot of compliments when I wear either one because my eyes are olive green and that color just brings that out. as much as I love the who what wear jacket you have, i’m afraid it’s just too short for me. it looks wonderful on you, however! thanks for another great post! now i have some more ideas for how to wear my utilities!
Yes, the Who what Wear Jacket is s bit shorter. I actually wore it as a “shirt” with whte denim shorts just yesterday when the weather was a bit cooler. Felt like wearing a linen shirt. THere is a longer version over at target that I have seen on other bloggers – which is cute too. I like the idea of wearing your longer one over skinnies – great idea! Have a great weekend!

I have a heavier weight utility jacket that I use for layering and i wear it mostly in the fall/winter. i would love a version more suitable for spring/summer or even a utility vest. still sad that target left canada…
Hi Colleen, what a bummer that Target left Canada. There are some cute vests right now over at Anthropologie as well as Nordstrom. Speaking of Nordstrom, they recently marked down one of my favorite jackets by Hinge: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/hinge-drapey-military-jacket/3883583?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=WASHED%20OLIVE%20COVERT, now $58.90. I tried this on when I was getting the Who What Wear jacket – but didn’t want to pay the $98.00 full price.
Thanks for stopping by!
