Time to get get cozy, fall is here! Anyone else get the itch to throw on a cozy sweater and a pair of leggings the second the leaves start to turn? Indian summer or not, I’ve rounded up my top 5 legging picks so when the weather turns, you’ll know where to go.
Leggings are the easiest, yet most tricky article of clothing to pull off with style.
Why?
This comfy bugger is misunderstood, but once you come to terms with a few guidelines – it’s a love fest!
#1 Butt and crotch remain covered at all times.
#2 Know that black is the most flattering color.
#3 Invest in a pair that is not see thru.
#4 Tunic, tunic, tunic – the key to coverage
#5 My style guideline: skinny on bottom = full on top, balance is key!
Do I have favorites?
Absolutely, and I’ve got them linked down below.
Number one, my leggings must stay up. All five of today’s picks all have a wide, unique waistband – one even has a control top! Favorites of mine over the past 3 years; I have personally tried, worn and tested each of these leggings. Prices range from $14.99-$60.00 ($108.00 for faux leather).
My Top Five
If you are looking for a thinner, inexpensive option, the Hue wide waist band legging is the bomb! Not to be confused with other leggings by Hue – which I have mixed emotions about, the magic is in the high/wide waistband. Perfect for everyday around the house or layered with a dress. These keep their shape without bagging out at the knees.
Hue Legging, in regular and plus sizing | Nordstrom $36.00 with free ship and returns
#2 The Low Price Winner!
Matty M | in 3 colors | Costco $14.99 with free ship
A great legging for the price with a wide, high waistband to keep them up all day. Thicker than the Hue legging, a great option for colder areas. I found these to perform well in the washer.
#3 Premium!
Lysse Control Top Legging
Nordstrom | $60.00 free ship and returns
I love the high-waist vegan style which is now on SALE!
Nordstrom | $108.00, now 40% off at $64.90 with free ship and returns
A girls dream, a legging and shaper all in one! Flattering and comfortable, these are my go-to “dressier” leggings. The built-in shaper makes these feel tighter, in a good way. Try your regular size to start. I thought I needed a bigger size, but once I got them on – these babies weren’t going anywhere. To get them on, I suggest folding the waistband down, skim the legging over the hip and then roll it back up. The vegan leather look pair are a challenge to get on – but once on the body, are like second skin. But if tight is not your thing, perhaps size up.
Actual waist band, close up.
#4 Vince Camuto Seamed Back Legging
Thicker, this legging can be worn dressed up or down. Almost a pant (but not!), she’s perfect for colder months. I think these run a tad big and I did size down. My personal preference is the Hue or Lysse legging, but these leggings have great reviews and I know many women who love them. We are all different shapes and sizes, so I would definitely recommend checking them out if you are on a legging search.
Nordstrom | $49.00| available in regular and petite sizing .

#5 Zella High Waist ‘Live-in’ Slim Legging
Perfect for yoga, but they are not your everyday work out pant. My sis-in-law, along with other fashionable friends who work in retail, swear by these leggings. They are more matte than your average workout pant, do amazing in the wash, and hold it all in – while staying up.
My Two Cents
NO DRYER. The dryer breaks down the elastic in the legging, causing white little pieces to pop out of the fabric. Your new favorite, will not retain the same stretch as when new if you continue to throw them in the dryer.

Great post! You do leggings so well! I’ll have to give the vegan leather look pair a trey!
It was so nice to meet you yesterday!
Hey Andrea! I can’t tell you how nice it was to meet you in person. You are so lovely online and even more so in person! I do love the lysee faux leather pair and I’m not sure why they are already on sale, maybe because they were part of the Nordstrom Anniversary sale? They are snug to get one, but once they are on they are great. What i love is they are not plasticy or stiff – and theyy do not bag out in the knees or butt area. I have had my same pair for 2 years now and I can’t say enough great things about them. THanks for the visit! xx
I got them and absolutely love them! Thanks for the recommendation!
I just popped on over to your blog and I love how you styled them. I wear mine just as much in the winter as I do my regular leggings – if not more. I find them to be so comfortable and just a bit dressier. I even wear them for work with tunics…xx Suzanne
Nice Post! Not sure why it is letting me type only in CAPS! I am not screaming :)!
Can yOU post some tunics and long sweaters to go with this?
Hi Sangeeth! Thank you for stopping by! I am actually working on a tunic long sweater post..they are actually hard to find and track down..which is why a post is needed 🙂
I have rounded up a collection and will be sharing them shortly on the blog, so pop back!
xx

This is great! Do you have one favorite if the issue is cellulite? I’m looking for a great legging that smooths out my thighs. Would love to hear your suggestions. Thank you!
Hi Lisa!
First off, I would start with a legging that is a bit thicker with some compression and a high waist like the Lysse Legging or Maybe the Zella High waist legging Style. Leggings that are sheer or overly stretchy tend to show everything and do nothing as far as “holding” us in. Lysse and Spanx both make a denim legging that may work as well. I have not personally tired either, but I have heard from readers that they really like the black denim pair from Lysse, available at Nordstrom.
HOpe that helps!
