This past week, I’ve been getting up early to enjoy a patio coffee date with my husband. He’s an up-at-dawn kind of guy, whereas I prefer rise as my spirit moves me – so we often miss each other in the mornings. So we compromise, meeting up with our mugs at 8am before the teens are up and rustling, to catch up and enjoy each other’s company before the day takes on a life of its own. Another new normal.

These days, we need to find joy where we can, which is often in the smallest of moments. Be it the calm of a 6am walk, mid-morning meditation, sunrise yoga (check out Hana Raftery’s online yoga library | HERE), planting an herb garden, crafting, picking up a beach read (check out Then She Was Gone | HERE), baking, a social distanced meet-up with a friend, a walk at sunset, an impulsive morning drive to the ocean to watch the sunrise, DIY home spa hour, an unscheduled bike ride, setting up a zoom call with family or friends – the point is, continue to search for ways to bring joy into your life.

Our Mood Is Affected By What We Wear
HOW we decide to show up each day matters. Studies have shown, when wear what you love, you look good, you feel good, and perform much better in your personal and professional life. I can say for certain, the days I MAKE AN EFFORT in my appearance, I DO FEEL BETTER. This means knowing what types of garments reflect your needs and lifestyle TODAY. It means dressing your TRUE SELF.
How we show up looks different for each of us, especially in these changing times where many of us are working from home or not working at all. So I’m saying make a conscious choice to select a piece you love, makes you feel confident or productive – and wear it today. So much these days is out of our control, but choosing how you show up is all on you.

I am so into dressing for a good mood- wrote about it in one of my posts as dopamine dressing. There’s a whole lot of truth to this! I love that you get up early to have a breakfast date with your husband! We are doing that too now that the weather is just perfect here in MOntreal. Making every moment count. Have a great weekend, beautiful (oh and love love those red slides!!)
Lucy xx
HI Lucy! Thank you for your message this morning – I need to check out that post, sounds so on message for where most of us are at right now. As simple as it sounds, having something to get up and look forward to right now matters. Otherwise, with both of us working at home, we rise when our internal clocks individually tell us to, get up, grab a cup (or 6!) of coffee and get on with our day, work, phone calls, etc – and may never really connect till dinner. Like you said, we need to make every moment count – big or small and find joy where we can and control whats within our ability to do so. The slides! You can imagine when I saw them on sale at Nordstrom IN MY SIZE – I couldn’t hit purchase fast enough. I don’t know if you’ve trie Birdies, but they are shoes with the comfort of slippers and I am obsessed. I love my wool socks for warmth, but these just make everything a little more fancy! Have a great weekend! xx Suzanne
And I just checked out your post on Dopamine Dressing and added a link to today’s post – for readers, here’s a quick link….enjoy! https://lucybertoldi.com/2020/02/06/are-you-dopamine-dressing/

In a heartbeat I’d wear those! (but on the mend with a broken toe)

Hi Eva! Thanks for stopping by this morning! So I had to Google the work “frippery” – thank you, it’s my new favorite noun! I found these on sale at Nordstrom (I had seen them at ChristmasTime and didn’t want to splurge on them) and couldn’t get them into my checkout cart quick enough. I have 3 pairs of Birdies now, they are the perfect house shoe. They are soooo comfortable and chic and add a bit of fancy to whatever I wear around the house. Hope you are feeling better soon and enjoy your weekend! xx Suzanne
I completely agree, and was interested To read there’s been research to validate that what we choose to wear affects our mood and The way others see us. And i Also love the Part about noticing subtle beauty, creating space for joy dUring these odd times. Great post all around! XO
GOod Morning Katrina, so nice to hear from you.
I hope you and your family are finding ways to enjoy this crazy summer. Yes, there is research out there to support this theory – so wear what you love whenever you can. And know that each day is different – so the outfit that brought you joy one day, may not do the same on another day. its all really mood dependent and these days I never know what mood I’m going to wake up in. Sometimes I change multiple times during the day as my mood shifts. And othertimes, A simple Accessory uplifts my spirits. I love rings and bangles, and during “normal times” I wear them everyday. After a few weeks into the pandemic, I started wearing them again, just around the house, and I found they brought me joy, now I wear some type of jewelry everyday.
And yes, we must find joy in the little things – we have to have hope and keep looking forward. Enjoy your weekend! xx Suzanne
Suzanne, this is such an inspiring post! I love morning coffee on my front porch with my husband when we get the opportunity. And wearing the things that make us feel great is so important. I usually get completely dressed and accessorized even if I have no plans to leave my house. It just makes me feel better and more productive at home.
Your gold slides and the burgundy ones are both so magnificent! I love them!
