If you are new here, welcome! Monday’s on Ask Suzanne Bell are all about style, with a new series for 2024, What’s on My Rail. On the first and third Monday of each month,  I’ll shop my closet, then share, what items are hanging on my “Rail” for the week ahead.  I am not committing to a certain number of items, as I have found capsule wardrobes over time – and much trial and error- to be quite confining. I also believe in not limiting one’s accessories and shoe options, as these pieces make fashion fun!  The second part of this series comes together on alternative Mondays throughout the month when I’ll be sharing a curated selection of what I wore off my Rail, along with insights, reflections, and style tips to hopefully inspire your fashion journey. You can read more about what inspired me to create this new series, in the post, Buy Less, Style More in 2024 (HERE)

Exact or similar items from this week’s Rail

This series is all about shopping mindfully. Enjoy checking out what other style bloggers have in their closets, but remember, these suggestions are just for convenience and inspiration. No need to rush out and replace what you already have—take a look in your closet first before considering new buys!

Buy Less, Wear More, Discover Your Unique Style Personality

buy less, style more series Looking to learn more about your style and create outfits that reflect your Style Personality? I promise you, everything you need to embark on this style journey with me, is hanging in your closet.
  1. A tidy (not Instagram-perfect) closet
  2. A Rail (AKA clothes/rolling rack). Available at Target | $9.00 | HERE
  3. Full-length mirror
  4. Iphone or camera
  5. Journal or notebook
Consider your closet as a carefully curated boutique. Start by selecting items from your wardrobe that you adore or are excited to wear; this can be as many pieces as you like, a limit of 10 items, 7 pieces for 7 days, or a color palette of neutrals – there are no rules here, you are just playing and having fun. Once you get a rail together, begin to mix and match to create stylish outfits. Take photos in the mirror of outfits you love, and take notes in your diary of what you liked about certain pieces/outfits as well as what didn’t work. Remember, this journey is all about cultivating more ideas for self-expression as you learn more about your style while buying less and styling more. Stylish Note: some women find it helpful to work off a 10X10 Challenge – 10 items, 10 outfits, for 10 days (read more here) – or work with a Neutral Capsule Wardrobe Concept (read more at Sustainable Chic), go for it, this is your journey, no one is judging.

Next Monday, What I Wore

      1. Hello Karen, so great to hear from you! I’m happy to hear you were inspired. This type of series is something I have been planning to launch for sometime, as I couldn’t find it for myself within other blogs – I’m sure it exists, I just couldn’t find it 🙂 – It’s amazing to me the clarity I had within my own wardrobe, when I pulled 16 carefully selected items out for the week, styled and wore them. Getting dressed this week has been so much easier AND I realized there is really nothing I need in order to make fun outfits. Studies have shown, that regardless of how much we spend on our wardrobes, we only wear about 20%! My hope is to get that number up to 80%! Thanks for following along! xx

    1. Hey there Carol! Do we need to get you a bigger closet? 🙂 But seriously, I know of readers who have smaller closets, and they like to use this method of curating outfits when they are going on a trip. They set the rack up in an extra room or office, and create the rack in that space – outside the closet. They say it makes the packing process much easier when the rack is not sitting in the closet.
      Thanks for following along! xx
